Possible Dwight Schrute Spin-Off Has Me… Worried

Share

The Office was one of my favorite shows of all time. Seriously, I cried for 3 weeks and shaved my head when Michael Scott left the show (ok maybe I’m playing it fast and loose with the word “seriously”).

Unfortunately, ever since Michael Scott left, the show has been on a slow, all-be-it dignified decline. Initially I boycotted the show, not wanting to give NBC the idea that it’s ok to let your main character go and continue making a show just because it’s the last one on your docket that’s actually making any money. However, after a month or two of Office withdrawals I was jonesing for a fix, and came back to see where the show I once loved had gone.

I was pleasantly surprised; the show wasn’t the same, but it didn’t “jump the shark” (google it kids) as much as it tried to evolve and become something different. Not better. A tiny bit worse. But mostly different.

Ah, the old Dwight. So young, so full of life, so gloriously easy to mess with.

Sadly, that’s not enough for the NBC execs who will milk an idea until the idea – a cow in this analogy – keels over and dies in a pile of crappy ratings and disappointed fans. On that note, NBC have decided to try and do a Spin-Off of The Office featuring Dwight Schrute and his life on Schrute farms.

Some people might disagree with me, but dear lord people, let an idea die with dignity – maybe on green pastures along with those happy, california cheese cows, gossiping about celebrity news. I’ll allow you to have your own opinions from this point on, but let me know what you think in the comments.

Personally I think the cow has died, and there’s no point trying to birth offspring.

Sometimes these things work out beautifully. Were people worried about a spin-off from “Cheers” before Kelsey Grammer rose to the occasion?
