Alright – I’m going to admit it – I’m glad that Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute”. And I hope that in some way Ms. Fluke is glad too when she puts it in perspective – because this could actually mean that someone might get through to this close-minded blowhard that his dickheaded views are out of style with mainstream culture, and no matter how many far-right leaning fans he may still have left, they mean bupkis when the rest of the country hates your guts.
Limbaugh’s advertisers are leaving in droves following in the wake of his disgusting comments directed at Fluke after she “dared” to publicly advocate that religious-affiliated employers should be including contraception in their employee health care. I think Carbonite CEO David Friend said it best in a statement he issued on the online backup company’s website:
“No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.” – David Friend, CEO of Carbonite, and my new hero.
Hear that Rush? If you won’t listen to your critics regarding your disgusting actions, maybe you’ll listen to your advertisers. Get hit where it counts, Rush – your wallet.
